I was praying one time, asking the Father why I could not feel His love for me as my Father, and He gave me this verse in Matthew.
You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy." But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:43-45a, NKJV)
As we deal out judgment and unforgiveness to others, we get the same judgment and unforgiveness dealt back to us in our daily lives. We can stop this cycle of sin and death and refuse to be a weapon in the hands of the wicked one by doing the opposite. "Love those who hate you, do good to those who spitefully abuse you, pray for those who curse you." This is the open door into the Father's house where He invites us to hop up and sit on His lap.
I once had a dream in which I saw myself in a very large, white room. As I looked down through the ceiling, I saw pairs of children playing in the room. Two boys playing marbles, two girls playing jacks, and so forth. In the middle of the room was the Father God with a child on His lap, just loving him. I was all alone over at the end of the room, sitting on a bay window seat, watching what was going on outside the Father's house. I was absorbed in all the evil that Satan had done to mankind, such as wars, murders, anger, and bitterness.
Next, the Father sat down the child He had been loving and called me to come and sit on His lap. He said, "Come to me and enjoy my presence. Let me love on you." I sat there, pointing out the window, saying to Him, "But you don't understand, and you don't care! I am concerned about all the evil in the world, and you just sit there and play with the kids! Somebody needs to care!"
He said to me, "I have all that under control, and you must not be distracted by it. You are in my house and you are to give your heart to me." The dream ended there. I was so taken by what He had shown me, I started praying God would change my heart and give me another chance to climb up in His lap.
I had that dream over 20 years ago. It portrayed my life very accurately. I was all caught up in the sufferings of the world and angry with God and my fellow man for what was going on. Everything seemed so out of control. Two years ago, after many years in a spiritual wilderness, I got my second invitation to come to Him and climb up in His lap. It happened when He told me that if I would love and not hate, bless and not curse, do good and not return evil to those around me, I would experience Him as my Father and know His wonderful love for me.
Jesus has been changing my heart day by day. It is a wonder to me that I now have far fewer judgmental people in my life attacking me. As I sow love, good and blessings, He sends to me those who love, bless, and pray for me. As I plant the good seed I see that after a season I reap a harvest of His goodness. He is truly drawing me up into His lap. May we enjoy one another there in His house as we seek Him.
